Jeff Smithpeters Joins SWARK.Today

SWARK.Today is proud to welcome Jeff Smithpeters to our growing team. Jeff may be new to SWARK.Today, but not to Hope and Hempstead County! Jeff grew up here and graduated from Hope High School in 1990. (He was actually a member of Hope’s State Championship-winning Quiz Bowl team in 1989!) He then attended Ouachita Baptist University and earned a degree in English and Communications. During those years, Jeff worked at the Siftings-Herald in Arkadelphia as a journalist, reporting on topics such as local government, community events, and critical social issues. He later earned his Masters in English from University of Arkansas and his PhD in American Literature from LSU. Jeff then taught literature and writing for 14 years at Delta State Mississippi.

Jeff’s recent move back to Arkansas has brought him closer to family and friends, while also giving SWARK.Today the advantage of an experienced journalist with creativity and insight. Jeff will be joining the team as a community reporter, covering events in Hempstead and Nevada Counties.

Jim Hawley, President of SWARK.Today is excited to have Smithpeters joining the team. “I am thrilled we have found someone who is experienced in journalism, and he will bring a unique talent and perspective to the team. Best of all, Jeff grew up in Hope, so his interest and dedication for his hometown will be a wonderful attribute for a community reporter.”

General Manager Bren Yocom is also proud to welcome Smithpeters to the SWARK family. “Jeff will be a great addition to our team! His skill in writing and background in leadership will be a huge asset to our company and this community. Jeff is eager to become reacquainted with the citizens of Hempstead and Nevada Counties, and he has some wonderful ideas for local journalism in news and sports.”

Smithpeters says he is excited about getting to know the community again and learning what changes have occurred in the local scene. “I’m interested in the continuation of Hope’s story from 1990, when I left for college, until now, as well as where we are today,” he says.  “I’m watching the sequel to what my experience was. I’m eager to learn more about the experienced, regular players as well as the new cast in town.”

Be on the lookout for Jeff Smithpeters at your community coffees, ribbon cuttings, civic meetings, local games, and other community events. Help us welcome him to the team!
