A man who drove through a power pole on Main St. in Hope late Saturday night was charged with DUI and failure to submit.
Allen Rose was traveling south in the 900 block of Main St. at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 when he appears to have driven a Pontiac Torrent across both northbound lanes and onto the sidewalk. Rose’s Pontiac drove through a power pole in front of Brazzel Oakcrest Funeral Home before briefly entering the outside, northbound lane and veering into the front lawn of the funeral home where it finally came to a stop.
The pole, broken off at the ground, fell onto the sidewalk, taking lines down with it and shutting Main St. down until Hope Water & Light could clear the road and make it safe.
Hempstead County deputies assisted with traffic while officers from the Hope Police Department investigated the crash. Rose was given a field sobriety test and transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center.
Rose was charged with refusal to submit and DUI. He was able to bond out on Sunday.
