If Forrest Gump was right, you may never know what you’re going to get from a box of chocolates, but in this case, the Sheriff’s Department knew exactly what a McCaskill man was going to get. A felony.
According to Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton, DeAngelo Smith, 19, of McCaskill, was arrested and charged with residential burglary and theft of property for allegedly breaking in to a residence in the 100 block of Highway 353 on either January 23 or 24 and stealing a box of Valentine candy.
“A felony was committed when he entered the house, just for a box of chocolate candy,” said Sheriff Singleton.
Sheriff Singleton said that the residents had previously come home to find a window broken out of the house and something burned in the kitchen sink.
Deputies arrested Smith on Friday, January 25 and transported him to the Hempstead County Detention Center.
No charges have been filed or suspect identified in the previous break-in.
