Betty Sue McKamie, age 78, of Hope, Arkansas passed away on October 18, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 12, 1945 in Prescott, Arkansas to her parents Shelton and Irene Wicker. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Oliver McKamie; daughter, Susie McCauley and son-in-law Todd; son, Marty McKamie and daughter-in-law Mandy; daughter Tina Lee and partner Harold; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one brother, Gilbert Wicker and sister-in-law Mary; one sister, Martha Parmer and brother-in-law Samuel; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; her sweet fur baby, Sassy; and two parakeets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelton and Irene Wicker; her sisters, Edna Mae Tunnell, Sherry Zumwalt, Sharon Kay Dycus; brothers, Ted Wicker, Bobby Dale Wicker, Terry Dale Wicker; granddaughter, Kourtney McKamie; grandsons, Trent McKamie and Logan Medlen.
Betty was a pastor’s wife for 52 years and served in many capacities in the church. She played the piano and taught Sunday school at Harvest Baptist Church where she was a member for 42 years.
Betty loved to sew and worked at Shan House in Hope for many years, and also made clothes for her children. She worked for Hudson Foods, which sold to Tyson foods and retried from there after 26 years of service. She worked in accounting and was very loyal to her job. She made numerous friends while employed there. Also, she made clothes for her children. She loved music. She loved people so much and would tell each person that visited her. You always received a hug and an “I Love You” when you would leave her presence. She loved all her nurses and doctors and had hugs for them at each doctors visit.
Our mom survived cancer 4 times and gave all praise and glory to her Lord and Savior. She never hesitated to tell every doctor and nurse and anyone else she spoke to that she was still here because of what God had done for her. She was never afraid when she was told that cancer was back. She would say “I’m going to be fine either way”. She never worried about herself, but always about her family. It was so important to her that we would be ok. She rarely complained so we never really knew how sick she really was. She would always say “I’m alright”. She made everyone feel loved and welcomed from the first time she met them. After mom’s health failed she loved to sit beside my dad and hold his hand. She loved to look at Facebook and for everyone that had a need.
We want to extend a special thanks to Dierkson Hospice and all the love she received from the nurse, CNA’s, social workers, and Chaplin Trotter, and to Christus St. Michael Cancer Center.

Visitation will be held 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Wallace and Bro. Mike Steed officiating. Burial will be at Snell Cemetery.
