Charles W Cogbill

Charles W. Cogbill, 86, of Hope, AR passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, in Texarkana, TX.

Charles was born August 29, 1937, in Hempstead County to Paul Frank and Mamie Estelle Lamb Cogbill. He was at Hope Brick Works for 48 years as a truck driver.  Charles was a deacon and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Charles was known as “Popeye” to his grandkids. He loved his family and was always there for them. He was reliable, dependable, and a solid presence to his family and friends.  He loved talking to people and enjoyed telling stories about his experiences delivering bricks and could tell you which buildings in Arkansas used Hope Bricks. You could always hear bluegrass or gospel music when you visited. He loved having the radio on. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rebecca Creech Cogbill; 2 brothers A.D. Cogbill and Jimmie Don Cogbill.

Survivors include his son Jimmy Cogbill of Hope; two daughters Javonna Johnson (Gary) of Hope and Jeannie Cross of Bryant, AR; two grandchildren Evan Smith and Davis Johnson; brother Sammy Cogbill (Angel) of Willisville, AR; sister Joyce Burns of Bodcaw, AR.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, 1:00pm – 2:00pm at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.  Chapel services will follow with Bro. Gary Johnson officiating.  Interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.
