Herman Brown

Mr. Herman Brown, longtime resident of Prescott, and Nevada County passed away Tuesday, Sept 5. He was born June 16, 1923, and recently celebrated his 100th birthday. He was the youngest son of William Brown and Bertha Holder Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Shelton Brown. They were original partners in the Sonic Drive-In in Prescott. Subsequently they were partners in the Gurdon Sonic as well. Then they became sole owners of the Nashville and Glenwood drive-ins. When not outside cleaning the lots, he could be found inside manning the grills.

Mr. Brown worked at Ozan Lumber Co., Robbins Flooring and Firestone prior to owning businesses. He was always doing "side hustles" to support his family by janitoring at the high school, hauling hay or driving egg trucks.

He served in the army during World War II and was a decorated infantryman deployed to the South Pacific and Okinawa.

Mr. Brown was the father of six children. Sheila Fay and Robert Mark are deceased. Surviving him are Sharon (Ken) Britton of Littleton, N.C., Judy Brown of Arkadelphia, W. Herman (Bobbi) Brown of Prescott and Paula Brown of Little Rock. He is also survived by grandchildren Will (Morgan) Brown and Samantha (Conor) Brown and their children, Livi and Liam, all of Arkadelphia.

He was predeceased by all his siblings; brothers J.W., Leonard and Glendale and sisters Ida, Audrey, Florine, Flavis and Beatrice.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews who looked upon their "Uncle Buck" as a father figure. Many of his younger friends were faithful companions to him as well, the family offers a special thanks to his niece, Cynthia Hughes, who was his caregiver in his home after his wife passed away.

Mr. Brown was until recently a resident of The Springs at Hillcrest in Prescott and briefly at Courtyard Gardens in Arkadelphia. The family also appreciated those facilities' care.
