James A. Reed

James Augustus Reed, also known as ‘James A.,’ was born in Emmet, AR, on Friday, October 25, 1946, to James Reed and Willie Ruth Lawson-Reed. James A. was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age.

He was a jack of all trades with skills in carpentry, plumbing, electricity, etc. His work ethic was evident through his ability to always lend a hand to anyone. He held several jobs during his lifetime, with his last job being with Hempstead County, where he retired.

James A. was married to the late Shirley Reed. One genuine characteristic that he possessed was his love and care for his family and friends.

In his later years, he became quiet and soft-spoken but was known to put a smile on your face while reminiscing about growing up in Emmet. He was also a faithful member of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church until his health began to fail. On Saturday, August 26, 2023, James A. gained his angel wings at his residence with family by his side. His life and legacy will remain in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Reed; parents, James and Willie Reed; sister, Marva Love, and his brother Julius Reed.

James A. leaves behind cherished memories with his loving companion, Jackie McClure of Hope, AR; 2 children, Cassandra Marshall and Cedric Sharp both of Hope, AR; 2 sisters, Juanita Faye Walker and Saundra Greene both of Emmet, AR; 4 step-brothers, Tyrone Moody and Darrell Greene both of Emmet, AR, Michael Black of Prescott, AR, and Russell Greene of Houston, AR. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
