Jerry Don Byers went to be with our heavenly Father on May 18, 2020 at his home in Lutz, FL. Born in Hope, Arkansas on June 27, 1939, Jerry was one of nine children. 1961 was a pivotal year for Jerry. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a mechanical engineering degree, married Betty Lou Walters and began a career of over 40 years working for oil companies. He began his career with Gulf Oil which took him from Port Arthur, TX to Cincinnati OH, Pittsburg, PA and Houston, TX. His son Don Allen Byers was born on August 18th, 1969 in Cincinnati. After 24 years with Gulf he joined Mobil Oil which opened literally a world of opportunities. He traveled to Indonesia, Qatar, Spain, Japan, Italy, France, England, Canada, Norway and Venezuela.
Jerry retired in 2000 living in Dallas, TX but continued contract work in Tokyo and Paris. In 2010 he moved to Florida to be closer to his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of Westtown Church in Tampa and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Byers; his son, Don Allen Byers; his daughter-in-law Melina Haeussler Byers and his grandchildren, Brandon Allen Byers and Madeline Starr Byers, siblings, Sandra Massanelli, Dub Byers and Laveta Norris.
Due to the pandemic, a graveside service will be held in his hometown of Hope, AR under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home when it is deemed safe for family to travel.
