Larry Powell

Mr. Larry Powell age 78 of Hope, Arkansas passed away Sunday December 11, 2022

In Texarkana, Texas. Larry was born July 12, 1944 to Barney and Donie Tucker Powell in Patmos, AR.

Larry B. Powell retired from Huff Construction where he was a heavy equipment operator. Some would even say he was one of the best in his day. During his retired life Larry spent his time following his daughters, Danielle and Mallory around to rodeos and school events with his wife Bobbie Rea. He was active in 4-H, South Ark, and Southwest Arkansas High School Rodeo Association. Larry had a love of farming. He spent most of his retired days working on his farm and raising cattle. He loved to dig ditches everywhere that made everyone often ask him why. He always said it was to get water draining in a different direction. He loved to make and design projects in his woodshop when his hands allowed him to. He loved visiting with his son Jason and daughter Deniece and all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed crossing the Mississippi River to travel to Tennessee to visit them. Larry was very involved in Mount Nebo Baptist Church and loved his extended family there. He thought of Bruce, Teresa, Chris, and Aimee as family.

He often told everyone that he was one of the first people to hold Aimee because people at the hospital thought he was her grandfather.

Larry is preceded by his parents; brother, Raymon Powell; and sister, Mary Helen Hollis.

Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bobbie Rea Powell; son, Jason Powell (Mel) of Alamo, TN; daughters, Denice Caldwell of Alamo, TN, Danielle Powell, and Mallory Evans; brother, Doyle Powell; sister, Jean Williams; grandchildren, Jon Coburn (Marley), Josh Coburn, Grace Caldwell, Sarah Caldwell Carr (Scott), and Hannah East (Jordan); great-grandchildren, Cora Coburn, Conlee Coburn, Calvin Carr, Kenzie Carr, Jon-Finis East, Evelyn Leah East, and Emmet Cleave East; and many other family and friends.

We are asking that instead of flowers please make donations to The Call of Hempstead County.

Pallbearers include Clay Lester, Chris Elledge, Steve Powell, Chris Powell, Randy Hollis, and Mike Vickers.
