Mary “Sue” Byers Willis, 84, formerly of Old Washington, Arkansas, passed away at her residence in Grapevine, Texas on December 27, 2020. Born May 31st, 1936 in Hope, Arkansas to JJ & Oma Byers.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Willis, parents, 2 brothers (Daly and Ray), 1 sister (Jeanette) and grandson Ralph.
She is survived by her three children: Ken Willis and wife Nancy; Terry Willis and wife Holly; Shana Kimball and husband Mark; and granddaughter Kayla Willis. Brothers Johnny and wife JoAnn Byers, Jack and wife Mary Byers, Bill Byers, Don and wife Rita Byers. Sister Carolyn Braswell. Sister-in-Law Mary Byers. Many nephews and nieces.
Sue or Mary Sue grew up in the Hope/Washington, Arkansas area. She retired from the Boy Scouts National Office in Irving, Texas after many years of service. For seven years Sue and Kenneth ran a food booth during First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. Sue and Kenneth also had a small diner in Hope called Kountry Folks Kitchen. She was active in the extension homemakers club while living in Arkansas after retirement. She also was very active as an auxiliary member of the Crossroads volunteer Fire Department. She worked with Kenneth raising a garden and selling at the farmer’s market.
Visitation in Texas will be Wednesday night, December 30th at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, TX from 6-8pm. Funeral will be at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, TX on Thursday, December 31st at 10AM. Pastor Jay Fannin will be officiating. Masks and social distancing will be required. We hope to be able to live stream the funeral.
Visitation in Arkansas will be Friday, January 1st from 10AM-12PM at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope. Masks and social distancing will be required. Due to covid, no service is planned in Arkansas. Private burial for the family will be at Shover Springs Cemetery with Rev. Neal Ridling officiating.
