Meredith “Olen” Yocom, age 89, of Spring Hill, AR, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024. He was born April 14,1935, in Spring Hill, AR, to Perry Olen Yocom and Ida Mae Harden Yocom. He was a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was a retired carpenter and chicken farmer.
Olen was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jimmy Yocom, Jereld Yocom, and Kenneth Yocom.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bille Jean Kidd Yocom, two daughters, Teresa Whatley and husband Danny of Spring Hill, AR, Cathy Colvin and husband Scott of Taylor, AR, one son, Marty Yocom and wife Stephanie of Spring Hill, AR. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Ashley Prejean(Jason), Brodie Whatley(Cassidy), Kayla Judd(Phillip), Will Yocom, Chase Yocom(Emily), Clay Yocom, all of Spring Hill, AR, Heath Colvin(Amber), Hannah Smith(Cody), Colt Colvin(Morgan), all of Taylor, AR. In addition, he leaves his thirteen precious great grand-babies, Parker, Ruby Kayte, Hoyt, Kennedy, Stella, Pacer, Piper, Paelyn, MaKenna, Audrey, Annie, Landon, and Maggie. Also a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Olen was a 1954 Graduate of Spring Hill High School. When he was younger he excelled as a baseball pitcher for the Bears. He enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors, mostly hunting and being on the farm. He absolutely loved his horses and riding them was one of his favorite pastimes. He loved to travel, mostly to Colorado, to see the beautiful country. He thoroughly enjoyed spending his morning at McDonalds with his friends and buddies. He was obsessed with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were perfect in his eyes.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Herndon Fuqua Funeral Home in Hope. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Bethany Baptist Church in Spring Hill, AR with Bro. Charles Jones and Bro. Eric Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Huckabee Cemetery (Spring Hill, AR).
