Sister Rosie Lee Harris, (Rosa) died September 2, 2020, in Heather Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hope, Arkansas after suffering a debilitating stroke in November 2019. Rosa was born October 10, 1930 in Hope, Arkansas to Odessa Horton. She was a life-long member of Haynes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Her association with Haynes Chapel extended beyond that of a parishioner but also her formal education began at the Haynes Chapel Church School.

She was very involved in her local church, as a member of the choir, usher board, member of the culinary department, and treasurer of the Frances Circle missionary department.

She was a 1951 graduate of the former Yerger High School, Hope, Arkansas. She worked in private homes, Howard Johnson hotel, and a long-time employee of Hope Public Schools. Her chosen vocations demonstrated her gift of service to others. Many remember her most sought-after chocolate cake and delicious green beans at church gatherings. Rosa was most notably known as a skilled seamstress. She provided church members and friends with many custom-made fashion designs until her health and eyesight began to decline.

She was proceeded in death by her mother Odessa Horton, her brother George Edward Harris, and grandson Mark D. Harris all of Hope. Her earthy legacy will continue through her sons James “Mike” (Carmen) Harris of Houston; Larry D. Harris of Hope; and David “Scotty” (Mahvash) of San Dimas, California; one sister, Earnestine Wyatt of Hope, Arkansas. Four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside will be 2:00pm, Friday, September 11, 2020 at Cave Hill Cemetery, Hope, AR. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
