Rucker Wilson Murry

Rucker Wilson Murry, 95, went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2023.  Rucker was born on October 26, 1927 in Prescott, Arkansas to Rucker Tanna and Molly Hazel (Bullock) Murry.  On May 31, 1950, he married the love of his life, Wilma Helen Munn, in Bodcaw, Arkansas.  In their 72 years together they were examples of love, marriage, partnership, family and high moral values.  He has said, " I've had a good life."

Rucker was a member of the Prescott First Baptist Church for 81 years where he served as a Deacon and on various committees.  He was proud of his collection of Perfect Attendance in Sunday School pins.  He lived his faith in word and deed.

After graduating from Henderson State Teachers College,  Rucker taught civics and coached basketball in Bodcaw for a year.  He took his six-man team to the State Tournament.  Rucker spent most of his productive/working years in the service station business, starting with Lion Oil.  His family opened Murry Gulf Service in 1950 in Prescott.  Later, he was the Gulf Oil Distributor for Nevada and Hempstead Counties.

His pastime activities included drinking coffee at the bank, raising cattle, growing timber, and playing couples bridge.  He enjoyed time with friends and family.  Rucker, or Buddy, as many of his friends called him, enjiyed entertaining the family with stories of his early adventures around Prescott with his neighborhood friends.  He had an infectious smile and a sense of humor.  As an adult he was involved in the community by serving on the board of the Bank of Prescott and through organizations and served as president of the Lion's Club, the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary.  Rucker, also known as Papaw, liked taking his grandchildren fishing, even when they were suppose to be working.  He enjoyed deer and quail hunting at the family deer camp located on ancestral land

In addition to his parents, Rucker was predeceased by stepmother, Madeline Parker Murry; his sister, Hazel Tanna Murry Howell; brothers-in-laws, James L. Howell and Thomas Malcolm Munn; son, Phillip Munn Murry; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Browne Murry; granddaughter, Juli Fair Dennis; and nephew, James Rucker Howell.

Survivors include son, Rucker Steven Murry; daughter and son-in-law, Tanna and Charles Clark; and daughter-in-law, Carol Murry.  Grandsons: Matthew Dennis (Kara), Shane Clark (Jodie), Stuart Clark (Julie), Joel Murry (Kylie), Jason Murry (Sydney), Jeffrey Murry (Lauren), Jud Murry (Kayla), Darren Murry and Andrew Murry.  Fifteen great-grandchildren.  Two great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Prescott, Arkansas.

Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Brazzel-Cornish in Prescott, Arkansas, funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.  Burial will follow at Deann Cemetery in Prescott, Arkansas
