Veda Elizabeth Crain, age 105 passed away November 3, 2023, less than one month shy of her 106th birthday. Born in the middle of WWI Elizabeth experienced two World Wars, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, the 1929 stock market crash and the Great Depression, 16 Presidents, 1918 influenza epidemic, the first man to walk on the moon, and a 2nd world pandemic in 2020! Events that most people have only read about!
Elizabeth was born in Missouri Township, Nevada County Arkansas on November 27, 1917, to Joe Earl Williams and Ettie “Etta” Cantley Williams. Elizabeth was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Prescott.
Elizabeth enjoyed 49 years of serving the Prescott community as a bank employee. She began her banking career in 1938 with First State Bank of Prescott. In 1941 she transferred to the Bank of Prescott where she worked for the next 46 years retiring in December of 1987. Her life revolved around the daily interactions with the residents of Prescott and surrounding communities.
Elizabeth and Floyd Crain were married October 19, 1942, and enjoyed 55 years of marriage before Floyd’s passing in 1997. After retirement, she and Floyd enjoyed traveling to the reunions of the 95th Air Brigade to renew connections with Floyds fellow airmen that served the 95th in WWII.
Many of Elizabeth’s close friends remember her homemade ice cream at their cabin on Suckles Lake. Always following a meal of Floyd’s fried fish there wasn’t a better place to spend a holiday outing than in the warm company of “Liz” and her gracious hospitality. One could say that her wonderful smile, generous hugs and positive outlook were the ingredients for such a long life.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband Floyd Crain, her brothers Earl Williams, Darald Williams, her mother Etta Williams, and father Joe Williams all of Nevada County Arkansas.
Please join Elizabeth’s friends and loved ones for a graveside service at 2 pm on Saturday November 11, 2023, at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Prescott with the Reverend Frank Henson officiating.
