Remembering Our Beloved
Mrs. Vernell Fletcher
On Thursday, March 10, 1932 in Ozan, Arkansas a beautiful baby girl was born to Jimmy and Janie Porter. She was named Vernell, with her twin brother Odell who passed away at birth. She was the sixth of fourteen children. Vernell was affectionately called “Tunie” by her family and friends. She accepted Christ at an early age at Mary Thompson Baptist Church in Hosston, Louisiana.
Tunie went on to graduate from Howard County Training School in Tollette, AR. At the age of 18 she met and married the late Joe Bradford Sr. in Hosston, LA, and to this union six children were born with one passing at birth. Tunie was a very caring and loving person. She served as a mother of foster kids and worked as a seamstress at Howard Manufacturing.
In her later years, Tunie married the late Cecil Fletcher. She was known for her amazing chicken and dressing which she shared with family and friends. She was also a member of First Church of God Tollette, where she served as Mother Fletcher on the Mother Board. Throughout her journey, Tunie enjoyed serving the Lord. She traveled and sang with the Rising Star Gospel Singers touching the lives of many.
It was Friday, November 25, 2022 when the Lord called His angel home. At 90 years old Vernell lived to see five generations, before entering eternal rest at her residence in Tollette, AR with family by her side. Our love and memories of her will remain forever.
Vernell was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Bradford Sr. and Cecil Fletcher; daughter, Annie Bradford; parents, Jimmy and Janie Porter; siblings, Odell Porter, Irene Moye, Jay Paul Porter, Coy “Son” Porter, Timothy Porter, Evelyn Edwards, and Edna Williams.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughters, Kathy M. Keels of Tollette, AR, Sharon D. Hamilton of Nashville, AR, and Edna L. Hendrix of Nash, Texas; sons, Joe R. Bradford and James B. (Norma) Bradford both of Tollette, AR; 10 grandchildren, 2 bonus grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; siblings, James (Jewell) Porter Jr., Dorothy Walker, George Porter all of Tollette, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
