One Killed, Three Injured in Early Morning Crash

One man was killed, and several people injured in a three-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Jaylen C. Willis, 21, of Texarkana, AR was traveling west on Highway 278 W between Ozan and Nashville at about 5:24 a.m. on Monday, November 26 when he lost control in a curve and crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and off the road before spinning around and reentering the highway into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Wilils’ 2011 Hyundai Sonata was struck from behind by the eastbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Walter Conway, 73, of Hope, and was knocked into the south ditch. The impact reportedly forced the Silverado into the westbound lane where it struck a white 2003 Nissan Frontier, driven by Lena White, 61, of Washington, head-on.

The crash shut down the highway for around two hours as medical responders from Pafford EMS and Yancey Fire Department tended to the injured and Arkansas State Police investigated with the assistance of Hempstead County Deputies.

Walter Conway, Myra Conway, 58, and Lena White were all transported to hospital.

Willis was pronounced dead on scene at 7:03 a.m. by Hempstead County Coroner David Peters.

Trooper First Class Darren Henley is investigating the crash.
