Overnight Fire Damages Scottie’s Restaurant

A fire did significant damage to Scottie’s Steak and Seafood at 504 E. Compress in Hope overnight, putting the restaurant out of operation.

Hope Fire Department and Hope Police Department were dispatched shortly before midnight Monday night. Dispatch advised that a passerby saw smoke coming from the building and noticed a vehicle in the parking lot but the building was not occupied at the time.

Police, deputies and firefighters arrived on scene and found smoke coming out of several places on the roof. The firefighters geared up and ran hose to the closest fire hydrant while officers closed down Compress. A Pafford EMS crew responded to the scene to be available in case anyone needed medical attention.

Firefighters had to force open the front door to make entry. They worked their way through the building, putting out the fire wherever they found it. The heaviest damage appeared to be located around the kitchen, but fire had spread throughout several areas of the restaurant. Firefighters got the majority of the fire under control and turned their attention to locating hotspots to prevent it from flaring back up. They worked the fire until just after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning before they were able to clear the scene.

Owner, Scottie Ivers was contacted and notified his restaurant was on fire. He said that they were running heat in the building but that the restaurant was closed Monday night so none of the kitchen equipment had been in use.

The cause of the fire wasn’t determined at the time but it is under investigation.
