The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of counterfeit money circulating in the area recently.
According to Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton, the Sheriff’s Office has confiscated a large number of prop bills which look like U.S. currency that are used in movies that are making their way around the community. Sheriff Singleton said the bills resemble $100, $50 and $20 U.S. bills.
Sheriff Singleton said, “I would like to advise the citizens and businesses of Hempstead County to be aware that this fake currency is circulating. Please, check your currency when you receive it and make sure it’s real.”
