Subiaco Academy Junior Serves as Senate Page

US Senator John Boozman

WASHINGTON – Subiaco Academy student Blake Zimmer will witness history, including only the third impeachment trial of a U.S. president, up close as a Senate Page.

Zimmer, a 16-year-old junior, began his service for the 2020 spring session on Monday after earning an appointment to the Senate Page Program from U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR).

“This is a historic time for Blake to participate in the Senate Page Program. He will have a front row seat as the Senate conducts a rare impeachment trial and debates consequential issues and legislation. I know it will be a great opportunity for Blake to experience how our representative democracy works. I look forward to having him as a member of the Senate team,” Boozman said.

“I am both humbled and honored to be appointed by Senator Boozman for this amazing and unique opportunity to serve as a Senate Page. I never dreamt I would be on the floor of the world’s greatest deliberative body before I graduated high school, much less be able to play a role in an important moment in history,” Zimmer said. “Knowing that pages are chosen from throughout the United States, I look forward to not just experiencing, but living in an environment with such a diverse group of students. To see the inner workings of the Senate with a front row seat is something few people get to experience, and to say I am excited to belong to the select group is an understatement.”

Zimmer is active in many clubs and school activities including the Senior High Robotics Team, where he serves as team captain; Subiaco Academy Court of Honor, where he serves as a Student Justice; Quiz Bowl and Future Business Leaders of America.

Zimmer is one of 30 Senate Pages who are responsible for preparing the Senate chamber for the day’s business by distributing documents to the senator’s desks, assisting in the cloakrooms and chambers; and, when Congress is in session, sitting near the dais waiting to help senators. In addition, he will attend classes and live in the Daniel Webster Page Residence near the Hart Senate Office Building.

Zimmer is the son of Robert and Keri Zimmer who currently live in Corning. Following graduation from high school he plans to study political science and attend law school.
