Terry Lawrence Lunsford
Dr. Terry Lawrence Lunsford Jr., age 75, passed away September 25, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Terry was born April 5, 1944 in Dallas to Terry L. Lunsford Sr. and Inell Daniel Lunsford who both preceded him in death. He is preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn Hubbard of Lawton, Oklahoma. Dr. Lunsford is preceded in by his life partner of twenty-four years, Billy Ray Ferguson of Hope, Arkansas.
Terry graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas and received an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University in 1968. Dr. Lunsford received a Master of Science degree in 1973 and a Doctor Education degree in 1978 from Texas A&M University – Commerce, Texas (formerly East Texas State University).
He was a member of the Order of DeMolay receiving the Degree of Chevalier in 1969 and the Legion of Honor in 1977 for “outstanding contribution to humanity”. Dr Lunsford was a 32nd Scottish Rite Master Mason, a member of the Crown of Thorns and Military Order of the Knights of Jerusalem. He was also a life-long member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Dallas.
Terry was an educator in public schools in Lubbock and Dallas and in higher education in Dallas for thirty-two years. He was a founding faculty member of the Architecture Department at Skyline Career Development Center in Dallas in 1971 (one of the first magnate schools in the country) and wrote the nationally recognized curriculum for that Department. Dr Lunsford taught for twenty years with the Dallas County Community College District (El Centro College). In 1975 he received a “Commendation” from the Dallas Chapter, American Institute of Architects “in recognition of outstanding service to the profession”. In 1990 he received a nomination from the Dallas Chapter, American Society of Interior Designer as a “Outstanding Educator”. He served for years with the National Board of Visitors, Foundation for Interior Design Education Research. Dr Lunsford retired in 2000 as a Professor Emeritus.
Chapel service will be held 2:00pm Monday, October 14, 2019 at Herndon-Fuqua Funera Home Hope, Arkansas.
