Troop 5 had a learning and fun campout at the Shover Springs farm of Dr.
Lester Sitzes. The Scouts earned Orienteering (compass skills) Merit Badge
taught by Robert Wright and Hunter Mathis. Pioneering Merit Badge features
knot tying and lashing, using ropes to fasten poles together to make
something useful. Pioneering Merit Badge was taught by Ed Flagg with several
assistants including Hunter Mathis, Dustin Golden, Jonathan Smith, Donnie
Golden and Dr. Sitzes. Building the tower was the test of their skills.
The Scouts also fished and played games. Scoutmaster Karen Smith cooked
fajitas for Friday supper and Donnie Golden smoked Tyson chicken and pork
loin for Saturday. Saturday night was capped off by the Scouts shooting
fireworks off of the lake floating dock.
