An Arkansas State Trooper received minor injuries Monday in Hempstead County while attempting to arrest a Texas man during a traffic stop.
According to Bill Sadler with the Arkansas State Police, Trooper Travis May was attempting to arrest 35-year-old Christopher Ryan Johnson of Devine, TX on scene of a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. on Monday, October 22 when he sustained the minor injuries. Pafford EMS responded to the scene but did not transport anyone.
Several ASP vehicles and Troopers were on scene at the traffic stop in the eastbound lane of I-30 near mile marker 24. The vehicles, with emergency lights on, lined both sides of the eastbound lane, slowing the approaching traffic and funneling it through the scene as Troopers searched the median in the area of the stop.
Johnson was transported shortly after midnight to the Hempstead County Detention Center. Bill Sadler said Johnson was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and has additional charges pending but no other information about the incident is being released by the ASP until the ongoing criminal investigation is formally closed.
