UAHT Spring Recital happens April 23 at Hempstead Hall

By Rick Kennedy, updated Wednesday
A rite of spring, the University of Arkansas at Hope Spring Musical Recital commences Tuesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at Hempstead Hall with the theme “The Season of Music.”
In an update Wednesday, event coordinator Phyllis Stroughter said approximately 14-to-16 students from the community are scheduled to perform with two vocal performances, three guitarists, and 10 pianists.
The students, comprised of both university students and concurrent students in the community, have been learning their crafts under respected local instructors Allen Batts (Piano), Benjamin Munson (Guitar) and Haley Patillo (Vocals).
As before, students will perform individually in five-minute sets.
In the past, sets widely ranged from tradition piano classics like Choplin to contemporary selections like a version of the Cantina Band theme from Star Wars.
Back in 2017, the Spring Recital was also coupled with headline performance in the Hempstead Hall theater, when a well-known concert pianist, Scott Carrell, made an appearance.
The event has traditionally been free of charge and open to all from the university and community.
