FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas Razorbacks junior right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell didn’t adorn the preseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, the college baseball equivalent to college football’s Heisman Trophy.
Now with the college baseball season half done, Campbell, 6-0, 2.29 earned run average with 59 strikeouts vs. 13 walks in 51 innings, has pitched his way on to the 40-man list for the Golden Spikes Award, it was announced Wednesday by USA Baseball in Durham, N.C.
The Golden Spikes field is narrowed to semifinalists then finalists before the June 14 Golden Spikes presentation.
Andrew Benintendi, the former Arkansas center fielder become Boston Red Sox left fielder, was voted the Golden Spikes while playing for Coach Dave Van Horn’s 2015 College World Series Razorbacks.
