On June 11, 2020, Agents of the 8th North Task Force and Hempstead County Deputies were conducting surveillance On North Hazel Street, just north of Interstate 30. Agents had received information from two different sources that methamphetamine was being sold by a female in one of the motels in the area. Agents observed a white Chevrolet truck go to the area of room at the motel and park. The vehicle had been to and left from the hotel three different times in approximately forty-five minutes. Agents noticed that the vehicle would go to a specific room on each occasion.
After the vehicle left the hotel on the third trip, Agents were able to get behind it and conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Compress and Hazel. The Driver identified as Benjamin Valdez age 23 of Hope. Agents discovered that Valdez had a suspended drivers license. Valdez was placed under arrest for driving on a suspended drivers license, No seat belt. Agents discovered drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine during the investigation. Valdez also refused to cooperate with Agents and Deputies and was also charged with resisting arrest.
Valdez was transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center where he was charged with no seat belt, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended driver's license.
