FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas redshirt freshman reserve running back A’Montae Spivey posted on Twitter Wednesday night that he is submitting his name to the NCAA transfer portal and is leaving Coach Sam Pittman’s Razorbacks.
“I’m thankful for all of the life lessons and people I have met during my time here at Arkansas,” Spivey posted. “Thank you coach Pittman for allowing me to be (a part) of a team that will have a bright future ahead.”
Signed as a 2019 freshman out of Phenix City, Ala. by former Arkansas Coach Chad Morris’ staff, Spivey played two games, two under the maximum limit to redshirt, for the 2-10 Razorbacks of 2019 rushing 7 times for 24 yards.
Behind senior Rakeem Boyd and sophomore transfer Trelon Smith for Pittman’s so far 2-3 Razorbacks in 2020, Spivey had played just one game, the 30-28 loss at Auburn that Boyd missed injured.
With Smith starting, Spivey off the bench logged 4 carries for 11 yards.
Boyd and Smith logged all the running back time the last two games, a 33-21 victory over Ole Miss in Fayetteville and last Saturday’s 42-31 loss at Texas A&M during which Boyd netted a season high 100 yards on 18 carries while Smith netted 30 yards on 6 carries while quarterback Feleipe Franks netted 91 yards on 16 carries.
Following defensive backs Jarques McClellion and Jerry Jacobs opting out of playing this season while remaining on scholarship, Spivey becomes the third Razorback leaving the team since the season’s start.
The Razorbacks next play the 2-3 Tennessee Volunteers in Saturday night’s 6:30 SEC game at Reynolds Razorback Stadium televised by the SEC Network.
