Press Release
Little Rock, AR – Army veteran Jake Bequette released the following statement after John Boozman’s main super PAC, Heartland Resurgence, sent mailers to smear Bequette’s military service immediately before Election Day:
“These desperate, last-minute smears on my military service by Team Boozman are truly disgusting and beneath the dignity of the office he holds. After my NFL career ended, it was the honor of my life to join the Army Infantry, graduate from the U.S. Army Ranger School, and deploy to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. I joined the Army because I think America is worth fighting for, but evidently John Boozman, who never served a day in his life, and his establishment cronies have decided to attack me for that decision. It’s repulsive, and these smears are not just an insult to me, but to everyone who has joined the Armed Forces and honorably served our great country.
I’m calling on Senator Boozman to immediately condemn these shameful attacks designed to mislead voters and to swear off any support from Heartland Resurgence. I’m also calling on Senator Tom Cotton, who faced a similar attack on his military service record last year, to join me in condemning Team Boozman for these disgusting attempts to smear my military service. As Senator Cotton said last year on Fox News in response to the attack, ‘This is not about my military record, this is about my politics.’ I agree. Arkansas deserves better than what’s going on right now in Washington, and John Boozman and his team’s actions continue to display that he is unworthy of another term in the U.S. Senate.”
