Blevins and De Ann unite for the nation’s 250th anniversary

In a united display of community spirit and cooperation, the Blevins and De Ann Volunteer Fire Departments joined forces this year to host a dazzling fireworks spectacular, celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary. This collaborative effort ensured a truly "spectacular show," as described by Justin DeVenney of the De Ann Volunteer Fire Department.

DeVenney explained the decision to consolidate: "The reason that we consolidated this year is because it's the 250th year anniversary of America’s independence. We saw early on that with the fundraisers and everything else going on right now, both of us were only going to raise about half of what we normally put into the fireworks show. So we decided to go in together this year so we could have a spectacular show, double what each of us would do in our separate communities. We just wanted to put together a great show for the Fourth of July."

They did not disappoint.

The event was a true community affair with the departments generously providing a free hotdog meal to all attendees, ensuring everyone could enjoy the festivities. The spirit of unity extended even further while Janet Choate and Tim Choate drove around the event passing out food and water to the crowd while final preparations were underway.

The coming together of these two departments, embodying the spirit of the nation's 250th year, proved that teamwork and shared goals could truly have an effect. The grand finale of the fireworks show was nothing short of amazing, leaving the community in awe and eager for future collaborations.
