Col. Mike Hagar issues statement on public safety roundtables

February 17, 2023 Press Release
Public Safety Secretary Col. Mike Hagar and other Arkansas State Police personnel were honored to participate in two roundtables hosted this week by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

On Tuesday, Governor Sanders invited Col. Hagar and Major Stacie D. Rhoads to a roundtable with business, non-profit, and other public safety leaders to discuss ways to eradicate human trafficking in Arkansas.

“This will be an ongoing conversation to coordinate efforts focused on protecting high-risk youth, the enforcement of the offenders involved in human trafficking, and critical efforts to care for victims after they have been identified and rescued,” Col. Hagar said. “Governor Sanders and the Arkansas State Police are committed to collaborating with all entities in achieving this goal.”

On Thursday, Governor Sanders facilitated a discussion focused on reducing violence in Little Rock with state and local law enforcement and nonprofit leaders.

“This is a systemic problem that not only involves law enforcement, but greatly effects the prosecutorial and judicial branches of the system,” Col. Hagar said. “We must do a better job in preventative measures and ensure success for offenders after adjudication to prevent the continued cycle of repeat offenders.  Our citizens deserve safety and security for their families.  All aspects of the criminal justice system must work together and think outside the box to stop this trend.  Governor Sanders and the Arkansas State Police are committed to assist our local partners in this ongoing effort.”
