Chris Davis, director of Hope’s bands, said of Martinez, “He's always on time. He's a freshman this year. He's learned all his music. [He’s] one of the people that carry the clarinet section. Whatever he does, he does it well, never complains, and he's a team player.”
Martinez was presented with a certificate from SWARK.Today Monday afternoon. Band member of the week is sponsored by Inked Threads, a full-service screen-printing business on 213 South Main Street.
The Hope High School Band unveiled almost ten minutes of its Juno show at halftime of the Hope Bobcat football game Saturday afternoon, dazzling viewers with its exotic textures and visuals. If you had to categorize the music for the show, you might come up with terms like Indo-Jazz. It features narration based on an Indian folktale and virtuosic solos from several players.
The band’s next performance will be again in Hammons Stadium during the halftime of the Bobcats’ game against the Ashdown Panthers Friday September 13th. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
