Judge Carlton D. Jones of Eighth Circuit South announces candidacy for Arkansas Supreme Court
Circuit Judge Carlton D. Jones of Texarkana proudly announces his candidacy for Position 2 of the Arkansas Supreme Court. Jones is currently serving in his second elected term as a Circuit Court Judge of the 8th Judicial Circuit- South, having initially been elected in 2014.

Jones is a graduate of the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville, and the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville School of Law. Jones served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney before his election in 2010 to the position of Prosecuting Attorney for the 8th Judicial Circuit-South. Jones served four years as the elected Prosecuting Attorney before following Judge Joe E. Griffin to the First Division bench.

Judge Jones will be seeking the position on the Supreme Court previously held by Justice Robin Wynne, who, unfortunately, passed away in June of this year. Shortly after his death, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders appointed Cody Hiland, a former Prosecuting Attorney and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, to fill the vacancy on the Court until the March 5, 2024 election. State law does not allow Hiland to run for the office in the March 2024 election. The elected term will be from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2030.

Since his election, Jones has served on numerous Judicial Committees. Jones serves on three Supreme Court Committees – Arkansas Access to Justice Commission, Model Jury Instructions Committee, and as the current Chair of the Criminal Practice Committee. While serving on the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission, Jones came to know and respect Justice Wynne for his intelligence and dedication to the law and justice. He also currently serves on the Arkansas Sentencing Commission. Judge Jones states that his previous experience as a Prosecuting Attorney and as a Judge give him a unique perspective that will allow him to be a highly effective member of the State Supreme Court.

Judge Jones has been married to his wife, Beverly, for 34 years. They are the proud parents of 2 children – daughter, Bianca and son, Cory. Jones is a lifetime resident of Texarkana and is actively involved in many community and church activities.
