With a win, the Lady Saints will play in the regional finals on Saturday against the winner of Legacy and CMA. “We have been playing with each other for a while now. Our chemistry is constantly improving, and we’re excited about the regional tourney and our plans to advance to the State tourney,” Gracy Martin said on Wednesday.
The Lady Saints, due to their great play this season have secured the 1-seed in the Central Region. “We put ourselves in a great spot to advance to the State Tourney and expect of lot of hustle and hard-work out of us this weekend,” Lady Saints guard Charity Zumwalt said.
GMCS has a good matchup on Thursday and has beaten both the other teams in their region, but they both were tough games, so they know they will have to play well this weekend to claim the regional championship. “We’re playing really well right now. Me and Laikyn have a good high-low game working right now. Gracy is shooting lights out, Evan is doing a great job running the offense and playing defense, and Charity continues to play great all the way around, and the rest of the girls are playing great,” Mikayla Fields said.
Senior Laikyn Mitchell spoke on how far this team has come this year, “Our offensive play has improved tremendously, we’re moving the ball and we are all contributing.” The Lady Saints have won a lot of close games this year, many of them on the road, which should bode well for GMCS as all of these games the rest of the way out will be on neutral sites.
Evan Chambless was asked what a state championship would mean to her in her senior year, “It would mean everything. This group is very capable of winning a state championship.”
The Lady Saints are set to play Mountain Home at CMA in Hot Springs on Thursday at 4:00 pm, as they begin their quest for a State Championship. Winning this regional will set up the Lady Saints nicely next week as they would receive a first-round bye with the 1-seed out of the Central Region.
