Leadership Nevada County Accepting Applications for Class of 2025

Prescott Nevada County Economic Development Leadership Nevada County
Leadership Nevada County Accepting Applications for Class of 2025
Leadership Nevada County is now accepting applications for the Class of 2025.  The program is for adults who live and/or work in Nevada County.  The goal of Leadership Nevada County is to increase the pool of effective, competent leaders for our community.

Leadership focuses on community issues that affect our everyday life.  The sessions cover a wide range of community activities including; history, state government, law enforcement, local government, health and human services, business and economic development, leadership skill development, cultural diversity, quality of life and education.  Each of the day-long sessions incorporates tours, information and hands-on experiences to help the participants grow to understand the issues involved in the various sectors of our community.  Over the course of the year the members of the class will tour over 40 area places and facilities.  Approximately 75 different presenters from the community and from other areas will meet with the group during their time together.  These events will provide each member of the class with a well-rounded education on the community in which we live.

Space in the class is limited to 10 participants each year.  The Leadership Class will run from January through December. After all applications have been received an anonymous committee from the board of directors will select the 10 participants.   The by-laws of Leadership Nevada County require that the committee select participants in a way that ensures the most diverse class possible.  Diversity includes gender, race, area of residence, age, occupational background and education level.  The diversity in each class allows the participants to learn a lot from each other.  If the program gets more than 10 applications then participants not selected are deferred until the next year’s class.

The program will start with attendance of the class at the opening retreat.  The participants will meet one day a month from February through November.  In December of 2025, the Class of 2025 will graduate.

The program cost $300 per participant.

Several organizations in town, as well as the City of Prescott and Nevada County, have asked for the list of the alumni of Leadership Nevada County so that they can appoint members to the various boards, committees and commissions who are familiar with the issues that surround our area.  Because Leadership Nevada County is going to be recognized by groups as providing a pool of leaders for selection, the attendance and work requirements for the Class are fairly strict.  Applicants need to ensure that their employer will allow them to miss the one-day a month that is necessary for participation in the program.  In addition there is homework, which can be done in about one-hour per month during a participant’s own time.  Also the Class will be divided into small groups each responsible for a community service project to be completed sometime during the year.

If you want to know more about the program please contact Mary Godwin at the Economic Development Office at 887-6208.  You can also visit with one of the members of the current Leadership Nevada County Class.
