While one Southern Pines staffer helping organize the event said she worried about what the attendance would be on a late Friday night, the turnout of children was high. Not only were they able to hunt those eggs for the chance to win a bicycle, but also they could attend an outdoor showing of Peter Rabbit and munch popcorn and candy while doing so.
The kids were split into three age groups, from toddler age to 12 and each group's eggs contained one ticket to the prize of a new bicycle, a prize attractive enough to send kids of all ages running for those eggs with vocal enthusiasm.
Several residents of the facility came outside to watch the hijinks. About half a dozen staffers helped plan and run the event. Southern Pines plans many similar events involving the community in the months to come.
