ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music in the School of Fine Arts will present the Wind Ensemble in a spring concert Monday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
“There are a couple of songs that I’ve definitely found challenging to learn, but getting to see the band’s and my growth over the semester has been super gratifying and makes it worthwhile,” said Lexi Williams, a freshman art education major from Mena, Ark., who plays clarinet in the Wind Ensemble.
The program will feature “Rondeau,” “Aubade” and “Gigue” from Illyrian Dances by Guy Woolfenden; “Radiant Shadows” by Julie Giroux; “Allegro Molto Moderato” from Carl Reinecke’s Flute Concerto in D Major, Op. 283, arranged by Jose Schyns; “Angles in the Architecture” by Frank Ticheli; and “Daybreak,” “Escape of the Gypsies,” “Funky Monkey” and “March of the Broken Toys” from Sounds, Sketches, and Ideas by Roger Cichy.
A flute solo will be performed by Destiny Diaz, a senior instrumental music education major from Malvern, Ark., winner of the 2022 W. Francis and Mary McBeth Concerto Competition.
The concert also will be available via the Livestream app or at livestream.com/obu. For more information about the Ouachita bands, contact Dr. Craig Hamilton at [email protected] or at (870) 245-5137.
