FAYETTEVILLE - For his combined football and academic prowess and commitment to community service, Arkansas Razorbacks fifth-year senior linebacker Grant Morgan of Greenwood has been nominated for the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy.
Presented postseason and named for former Florida Gators Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, Morgan meets criteria for the trophy’s consideration as a 3.625 already with a University of Arkansas degree, community service volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and visiting patients at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Hospital while on the field leading the nation averaging 13.0 tackles per game including 19 in Arkansas’ 33-21 victory over Ole Miss during which Morgan also broke up two passes and intercepted one that he returned for the game-sealing 23-yard touchdown.
For his performance against Ole Miss, Morgan was honored as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and nationally named Player of the Week by committees from both the Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski Awards.
Morgan and the 2-2 Razorbacks next play Oct. 31 at nationally seventh-ranked SEC West rival Texas A&M.
