COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Arkansas registered three more victories in the Saturday portion of the Texas A&M Team Invitational. The Razorbacks won the 4x100 relay and produced 1-2 finishes in the 100m hurdles and 100m.
For the weekend Arkansas claimed titles in 5 of the 8 events they contested with its crew of sprinters, hurdlers, and vaulters. The Hogs were runner-up in each event they didn’t win, which included the 400m and 4x400 relay on Saturday.
“I think we had a really good and solid weekend,” noted Arkansas associate head coach Chris Johnson. “We came into the meet in a heavy training phase, but we don’t make excuses, we go out and compete hard every day and try to get better.
“There’s a lot of room for improvement. We’ll go back home, figure some things out, make some adjustments, and get ready for Florida.”
The Razorbacks opened the Saturday running session with a victory in the 4x100 as the relay crew of Daszay Freeman, Tiana Wilson, Jayla Hollis, and Jada Baylark won a close race in 44.25. Houston finished second in 44.52 with Texas A&M third at 44.72.
Wilson also captured the 100m with a facility record of 11.25 (0.3 wind) as Baylark finished as runner-up at 11.38. Texas A&M’s Zhane Smith clocked 11.49 for third with Houston’s Tristan Evelyn fourth in 11.50. The previous facility record of 11.38 was set by Teahna Daniels of Texas in 2019.
Yoveinny Mota and Freeman combined for a 1-2 finish in the 100m hurdles and Arkansas also placed fifth and sixth with G’Auna Edwards and Jayla Hollis.
Mota posted a winning time of 13.12 (1.8 wind) with Freeman runner-up in 13.15 while the Aggie tandem of Kayla Robinson (13.33) and Kennedy Smith (13.37) finished third and fourth. Edwards ran 13.45 with Hollis finishing in 13.48.
In the 400m, Morgan Burks-Magee (53.13) and Shafiqua Maloney (53.70) went 2-3 behind a 52.42 for Syaira Richardson of Texas A&M.
Arkansas clocked 3:29.50 as runner-up to Texas A&M’s 3:26.73 in the 4x400 relay. Burks-Magee led off for the Razorbacks and was followed by Wilson, Paris Peoples (52.57) and Maloney (51.61). The Hogs still hold the outdoor collegiate leading time of 3:26.63 from their Texas Relays victory.
