VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – Arkansas carded an even-par round of 280 and is tied for ninth after the first round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, played at Old Overton Club (par 70, 7,204 yards).
Freshman Manuel Lozada leads the Razorbacks, shooting an opening-round, 1-under-par 69 to tie for 18th. Graduate seniors Mason Overstreet and Tyson Reeder are one stroke back and tied for 29th with an even-par round of 70.
Lozada played the par 3’s at 2-under, which tied for best in the field, thanks to a birdie on his opening hole (#8) and hole 17. Lozada, Overstreet and Reeder each had six birdies, each tying for the second-best total in the field. Overall, Arkansas had 22 birdies in the first round, second only to round-one leader Georgia (24).
Overstreet, who won the 2017 Jerry Pate National, was 4-over after 12 holes. However, he birdied the 18th hole and would birdie four of his last six holes for his round of 70. Reeder also had four birdies over his last six holes to shoot an even-par 70.
Julian Perico, the 2018 Jerry Pate National champion, turned in 13 pars with three bogeys and two birdies for a 1-over 71 to stand in a tie for 42nd. Segundo Oliva Pinto rounded out the quintet shooting a 73 to tie for 57th.
Georgia leads the 14-team, All-SEC field at -15, followed by Vanderbilt (-10), Auburn (-7) and Tennessee (-6). Only seven strokes separate spots five through 14.
