In a prolific career as a Razorback, Sales compiled 1,240 rushing yards (4.9 yards per carry), seven rushing touchdowns and 265 receiving yards (9.5 yards per catch).Â
Sales is most noted for his role in Arkansas’ 31-6 victory vs. No. 2 Oklahoma in the 1978 Orange Bowl. Sales rushed for a then-Orange Bowl record 205 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns. In addition, he also led the Hogs in receiving with four receptions for 52 yards. His single-game Orange Bowl rushing record lasted 20 years, and he still sits second on the all-time list behind Nebraska’s Ahman Green (206 yards). Sales and teammate Reggie Freeman were named Orange Bowl MVPs.Â
With the win, Arkansas concluded the 1978 season ranked No. 3 in the nation. Â
Sales is joined in the class by former Penn State quarterback Chuck Burkhart and former Oklahoma defensive back Bud Herbert. Â
The three legends will be honored at the annual AvMed Orange Bowl Coaches Luncheon presented by AutoNation on Dec. 29 at Jungle Island in Miami and will be featured in an on-field ceremony at the 90th Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 30 at Hard Rock Stadium.Â
