Senate Passes Boozman-Supported Resolution Honoring Juneteenth

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) praised Senate passage of a resolution designating June 19, 2020, as “Juneteenth Independence Day'” in recognition of June 19, 1865, the date on which Union General Gordon Granger brought the news of emancipation to Texas. Boozman, a cosponsor of the resolution, released the following statement in celebration of Juneteenth.

“I’m pleased to join with Arkansans and all Americans to celebrate the anniversary of the welcome news of the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a milestone in our nation’s history that brings us together to reflect on the struggles of the past and the challenges that remain in pursuit of equality. This day symbolizes hope, reminds us of the progress we’ve made, and represents opportunities we have to make a brighter future for all Americans.”
