Hope, Ark. – Due to the continuing spikes in COVID-19 cases in our area, TEDxUAHT has been postponed again. The production team will work to choose a date in the future when it is safe to host events of this nature. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, will feature local voices and TED Talks videos.
“Having to postpone TEDxUAHT for a second time is necessary,” said Amanda Lance, TEDxUAHT Executive Producer and Director of Hempstead Hall & Workforce Development for the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana. “UAHT has been committed to public health safety from the beginning of this pandemic. We have to do what’s best and responsible for our community’s well-being.”
“In order for large events to return, we’re going to have to see a dramatic decrease in COVID-19 cases,” continued Lance. “The best way to get back to normal is practice safe measures such as wearing a mask in public, limiting contact with the general population, social distance, and wash your hand thoroughly and often. It’s going to take all of us working together to get through the pandemic and back to a version of ‘normal.’ We’re very grateful the TED organization has granted us an extension through 2021 so that we can work to bring this event to life when it is safe.”
All attendees, speakers, partners and volunteers are being notified of the postponement.
Launched in 2009, TEDx is a program of locally organized events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from the TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.
TEDxUAHT will offer attendees an opportunity to focus in-depth on the challenges facing the southwest Arkansas region and all of the positive possibilities that can come by overcoming those challenges. “Hope Lives Here” will strive to showcase the encouraging work happening throughout Hope, Hempstead County and all of the southwest corner of our state to better our communities.
