FAYETTEVILLE - Posting on his Twitter account, “Can’t wait to hoop at Bud Walton Arena,” 6-9, 230 forward, Vance Jackson, is coming to the University of Arkansas and the Razorbacks basketball team as an immediately eligible graduate transfer from the University of New Mexico.

Arkansas will be the third university that Jackson attends. He began as a freshman at the University of Connecticut averaging 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 2016-2017. For the New Mexico Lobos of the Mountain West Conference in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, Jackson averaged 13.1 points and 7.0 rebounds and 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.

In 2018-2019 played against Coach Eric Musselman’s University of Nevada Mavericks and now joins Musselman who completed his first Arkansas season at 20-12 with a first-round SEC Tournament victory before the season was canceled because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

“I was very familiar with Coach Musselman and his whole staff,” Jackson was quoted by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “They recruited me at Nevada when I transferred from UConn, so I’m already familiar and comfortable with the relationship we have and I didn't see a reason to delay. “I had a chance to compete against them many times in the Mountain West when I was at New Mexico,” he said. “I loved their style of play and how hard they competed.”

Upon announcing his graduate transfer intentions by putting his name Monday into the NCAA’s transfer portal, Pasadena, Calif. native Jackson reportedly also drew recruiting interest from Ole Miss in the SEC, and from various schools around the country including Arizona State, Memphis, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Rutgers.

At 6-9, Jackson is taller than any of the Razorbacks active in the 2019-2020 season. Arkansas graduated starting 6-6 forward, Adrio Bailey, and seldom-used forward 6-7, Jeantal Cylla, but will activate 7-3 sophomore center, Connor Vanover, who redshirted last season upon transferring from the University of California.
