Winner of Band Performer of the Week is Yoslyn Cervantes, marimba player
The Band Performer of the Week, Yoslyn Cervantes, a marimba player in the Hope High School band, rejoined the Hope program after a year in a school district in Tennessee.

Asked what she brings to the Sound of Hope, band director Woodrow Boyd said, “skill and determination. She was in band here for the first three years of band before she moved to Tennessee.  She grew a lot in Tennessee and came back and is just doing excellent.”  The marimba part is a crucial part of this year's show, Boyd added.

Cervantes was presented a certificate, a carrying bag and a sports drink container at the Hope High band hall this afternoon.  Steven Russell, owner of Inked Threads, the sponsor of the award, also came to Hope High School to meet Cervantes.

The band’s performance at halftime of the Ashdown versus Hope game in Hammons Stadium added another few minutes to the show. The band is preparing this week for its performance at the Hope at Prescott game Friday at Wolf Stadium during halftime and then it will go on the road again Saturday to compete in the Cabot Invitational contest. Results of that contest will be shared by SWARK.Today as soon as they are known.
