As students prepare to return to the classroom, Hope Counseling for Anxiety & Depression is encouraging parents to pay attention to more than just school supplies. While some nervousness is normal, persistent anxiety, difficulty focusing, emotional outbursts, struggles with organization, or declining grades may be signs that a child could benefit from a professional evaluation.
"Many parents assume their child is simply being lazy, defiant, or unmotivated, when in reality they may be struggling with anxiety, ADHD, or another condition that is making school much harder than it should be," said Chris Espinoza, LPC-S, Clinical Director at Hope Counseling.
Hope Counseling offers comprehensive Anxiety and ADHD Assessments designed to help identify underlying concerns, provide parents with a better understanding of their child's strengths and challenges, and offer recommendations that support success both at home and in the classroom.
Many families are also unaware that children with conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, autism, learning disabilities, and certain emotional or behavioral challenges may qualify for educational accommodations through a Section 504 Plan or an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Depending on a student's needs, accommodations may include additional testing time, preferential seating, movement breaks, organizational supports, counseling services, and other resources designed to help children reach their full potential.
"Early identification can make a tremendous difference in a child's confidence, academic success, and emotional well-being," Espinoza said. "Our goal is to help families better understand what their child is experiencing so they can receive the support they need both at home and at school."
Hope Counseling's clinical staff provides services in both English and Spanish, and Anxiety and ADHD Assessments are available in either language, helping ensure families can receive care in the language they are most comfortable using.
