The crowd to see Trey Johnson and Dave Almond play originals and covers at Hope's The Hub was the largest of the season and the show was one to savor. Almond's voice was as fine and powerful as ever as he and Almond both played mean guitar and won an all-ages audience to permanent fandom Thursday evening.

It was their second time coming to The Hub for the Big Sounds concerts, which are in their third year now. For Johnson, playing here is always something of a family reunion. He now lives in Conway where he is raising three kids and touring around the region when he can.

About the diverse set list of rock and soul along with knock-out covers like "Nevada County Blues," Johnson said, "Down here when I first started, I was writing all my own songs, and most of these people would come out and watch me perform them. So we did some covers, but for the most part, I tried to play as much as I could, and they all sang along and had a great time. And Dave did great as always."

Almond, fresh from his turn with Miller County Line at Sparks Fly in July, regaled us with blistering solos, the occasional lead vocal and perfect backup singing. Just the two of them amounted to a full, symphonic experience that got a couple hundred attendees clapping, foot-stomping and dancing.

Southwest Arkansas Arts Center's Beckie Moore said there has been clamor for more concerts in the fall. With so many hit shows in the space of these three months, it's easy to understand why.
