Beatrice Arlene Johnson

Beatrice Arlene Johnson passed away peacefully, with her sister-in-law Marge by her side, at The Landings in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota on Sunday, September 5th at the age of 88. Beatrice (Pfarr) Johnson was born on October 17, 1932 to Alvin and Bertha (Woehl) Pfarr in Windsor Township near Jamestown, North Dakota.

She resided on her parents’ farm while working at White Drug and JCPenney in Jamestown. In 1955, she went to visit her aunt in Compton, California. While working in a donut shop, she met Thomas Cue Johnson. They were married on September 7th, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Jamestown until 1965 when they moved to Prescott, Arkansas, where Tom was born.

Bea worked at Liberty Value Mart for 20 years and at Smitty’s Grocery as a meat wrapper and Department Manager until her retirement. She then began pet-sitting for vacationing friends. Her love and compassion for cats and dogs was obvious, and caring for other people’s pets was an effective way to supplement her income. What began as a hobby became her passion for many years.

While Beatrice and Tom never had any children, they did have many children of the four-legged kind. Bea was a lover of animals and whenever a stray cat or dog was dropped off near her home, she took them in and cared for them. Shep, Freddy, Susie, Penny, Ruff, Bellanne, Lucky, Daisy, Rusty, Blue, Happy, Sheba, Buddy, Scrapper, Sally, Babe, Pepper and Elmo were some of her lucky dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Clarence, sister-in-law Elaine Pfarr and her husband of 47 years, Thomas Cue.

She is survived by her brother Elmer (Marge), 2 nieces, Angela Taylor (John) and Susan Prom (Mike) and their families, all from Minnesota. Also, brother-in-law Prentice Johnson (Martha) and nephews Mitch and Carter and their families from North Carolina.
