In Loving Memory

Clarence “CJ” Johnson

Clarence Arbady Johnson, 84, of Hope, Arkansas, peacefully transitioned on Saturday, August 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a short stay in hospice care at home.

Clarence, better known as 'CJ,' was born on July 4, 1939, to Noble Harrison ('Dude') and Estella Reece Fields-Johnson in Hempstead County (near the Blevins, AR area). Clarence joined St. Luke #2 Baptist Church at an early age and served as a faithful member until his homegoing. CJ graduated from Lincoln High School in Old Washington, AR. He was a hardworking man remembered for his many accomplishments. He worked at Lone Star Ammunition Plant, Champion Parts as a truck driver, and the Hempstead County Sheriff's Department as a deputy until he achieved his lifelong dream—owning a business. CJ's dream came true; he owned CJ's Carwash for over 45 years. He had one of the first hand-washed car washes in Hope, AR. Many people worked for CJ over the years and gained his hardworking experience. After retiring from his carwash, he continued to wash his loyal customers' cars at home until he fell ill. His joys included spending time in his man cave, hanging out with his buddies, painting, and fishing.

On December 31, 1995, he married the love of his life, Mona Jean Clark Johnson. They were together for 28 years until GOD called him home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be forever loved and remembered by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Estella Johnson, three sons: Stanley Johnson, Carlus Johnson, and MacGarrett Helm, two brothers: Johnnie Johnson and Harris Johnson Jr., and one sister: Bessie Mae Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife and companion, Mona Johnson; his children: Tephanie Johnson of Hope, AR; Anthony Curtis (Jhen) of Florida; Nathaniel Hussey (Shannon) and Kimblee Cochran of Hope, AR; and Monique Clark of Texarkana, AR. He is also survived by seven brothers: Grady Johnson (Alma) and Charles Johnson (Nicole) of California; James Johnson (Dorothy), Horace Johnson (Evelyn), David Johnson (Alma), Larry Johnson, all of Hope, AR; and Jimmy Johnson of Indiana, daughters-in-law: Robin Johnson and LaShawn Helm.

Clarence leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special buddies.
