Mary Alice (Tompkins) Naumann, 76, of Hemphill, TX departed this earthly life on May 28, 2023 after battling cancer for several years.
Mary was born on September 29, 1946 to Leon and Ressie Tompkins. She graduated from Hope High School in Hope, AR with the class of 1964. She married Phillip Ray Camp, Sr. in 1965 and they had four children together, Donna, Janet, Mary Anne, and Phillip Jr. While they both adored their children, they divorced in 1980. Mary married the love of her life, James “Jim” Naumann, in 1988 and they went on to own and manage Southern Kitchen, in Port Arthur, TX for many years. Jim preceded Mary in death, when he lost his own battle with cancer in 2004. Mary retired and moved to Hemphill where she spent the past 18 years with her companion, Norman Crorey.
Mary was preceded in death by Jim Naumann (husband), Leon & Ressie Tompkins (parents), and her brothers - Rodney, R.L., Jimmy, Jackie, and Richard. Mary is survived by her brother, Bobby (Faye) Tompkins of Prescott, AR, and four children: Donna (Eddie) Ingersoll, of White Hall, AR, Janet (Tim) Choate of Blevins, AR, Mary Anne (Steve) Ward of Hope, AR, and Phillip (Kristin) Camp of LaBelle, TX.
Mary’s greatest joy was her fourteen grandchildren: Jeremy Ingersoll, Katie (Deric) Corbin, Rebecca (RJ) Baker, Melanie (Brett) Frost, Ashley (Ashley) Fatheree, Troy Ward, Summer Wylie, Hunter Choate, Maegan Ward, Michaela Camp, Major Camp, Malachi Camp, Mable Camp and Maeci Camp. She also cherished her eight great-grandchildren: Kesler, Karisma, Sawyer, Korbin, Khloe, Abel, Cheyanne and Naomi. She will be deeply missed by her brother, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces/nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Mary Alice was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed homemaking, cooking, and fishing; however, her greatest joy was found in spending time with her family. She often had her grandchildren stay with her for weeks at a time, and spent time fishing and cooking with them. She only had two rules: No running in the house and No jumping on the furniture. Anything and everything else was allowed, which made for many happy memories. In fact, all who entered her home, felt welcomed and comfortable.
Mary believed in and accepted Christ as her savior and we are comforted by the fact that she has been made new. She converted to Catholicism prior to the death of her husband, Jim, but was most recently an attendee at Six Mile Baptist Church in Hemphill, TX.
A celebration of life will be June 17, 2023 at 3pm at the Word of Faith Church in Blevins, AR. Mary will be cremated and her wishes for her ashes to be placed with her parents and husband, Jim, will be fulfilled at a later date.
