Rufus J Askew, 85, of Prescott passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, in Prescott.
He was born August 2, 1935, in Bodcaw, AR to James J and Willie Brown Askew. Rufus was a retired truck driver and a member of Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw. He was also a former shop foreman for General Farm Services where he was a doctor of motors. Mr. Askew loved Jesus, family, horses, and life.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers JB, Otis, Edward, Duel Askew; three sisters, Juanita Askew, Lossie Manning, Exie Richardson; mother and father-in-law Allie and Pearl McWhorter; one son, Donald Dwight Askew; two daughters, Deborah Jean Askew and Cheryle Roxann Cornelius.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Ruby Jean Askew of Prescott; son and daughter-in-law David and Carol Askew of Prescott; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2021, from 11:00am until Noon at Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw.
Services will follow the visitation with Bro. Joe Brown, Bro. John Nations, and Bro. David Askew officiating. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home of Hope.Â
