Hope, Ark. – The Southwest Arkansas Arts Council announces the first exhibit of the year, African-American History, A Photographic Journey. The exhibit will begin Monday, February 28th and run through March 4th, 10am to 6pm at the Art Station located at 200 East Division Street, Hope.  

Photographs paint a picture for generations to come. Join us to take a journey back to the early days of Hempstead County and the surrounding communities through photographs that chronicle the lives of African-American individuals and families calling southwest Arkansas home. From as far back as the 1880’s, the photos illustrate strength, community and family.

Enhancing the exhibit are artworks composed by two local African-American artists, Harding Deon of Prescott and Oluwatobi Adewumi of McNeil. Don’t miss out on these one-of-a-kind works.

The photo exhibit is sponsored by the Southwest Arkansas Reginal Archives located in Washington, Arkansas, a division of the Arkansas State Archives, Division of Arkansas Heritage.
